Playtest, demo, and fake invites
There was a Steam playtest app named Scam With Your Friends Playtest, AppID 5216930, dated 19 September 2026. It has no store price. The game people buy now is AppID 4954910, in Early Access since 15 October 2026. I did not find a separate public demo build on that date.
What I checked
I requested appdetails for 5216930 and for 4954910 on the same day. The playtest record has no purchase option. The main app is the one with the $8.99 price. Steam discussion threads still show people asking for leftover test codes after launch. The publisher has not posted a sentence that says “the playtest is closed” in the nine news items I read, so I will not invent that sentence. What I can say is that the paid Early Access build is the current way in.
A private message is the wrong shape
Valve does not hand out playtest keys by chatting you. Steam’s own scam notes cover the pattern: a report that you will be banned, a trade that suddenly points somewhere else, an offer to buy your items, or a stranger who needs your password to “add you to the test.” Bitdefender’s March 2026 write-up of fake playtest invites describes the same lure across many games, not a special flaw in this one.
If you want the game, open the Steam store yourself. Type the name, or use the AppID. Do not paste a login into a form that arrived in Discord, email, or a friend request.
Beta, demo, and the live build
People still search for a beta or a demo. The named test artifact is the playtest app above. I have no evidence of a timed public demo with its own download. The Early Access game is the current playable Windows build, with the limits Early Access implies: the 1.0 date can move, and patches are landing several times a week.
- Real next step: buy or wishlist AppID 4954910 on Steam.
- Roblox players: the free Roblox edition is not a Steam playtest key.
- If the DM already asked for a code or a password, read the Steam scams page before you reply.
FAQ
Can I still join the playtest?
The paid Early Access game is the live product. The older playtest app has no purchase button. A stranger offering a leftover key is not a source I can verify.
Is there a demo?
No separate demo was listed on the Steam records checked on 22 October 2026.
Are playtest DMs real?
Treat unsolicited playtest messages as hostile. Open Steam yourself. Valve’s help pages say staff will not contact you in chat to fix a ban or a trade.
