Is Scam With Your Friends safe?
The Steam game is a comedy that pretends to infect your computer. That fiction scared people into searching for a virus removal guide. The useful answer has three columns: what the publisher admits, what players claim, and what you can do either way.
What I checked
I read the privacy policy and EULA updated 17 October 2026, the 2-spyware article dated 18 October 2026, and the tone of recent English Steam reviews. I did not run my own antivirus scan on a local install, so I will not invent a detection name. Coop-Land’s 19 October Russian report repeats community worry about recordings. I treat that as a second-hand report, not as a lab result.
Confirmed in the publisher’s own text
Saved calls go to Documents\Scam With Your Friends\Videos on the PC. Turning call saving off still keeps a temporary recording for the boss review. Speech recognition is described as local. The text of AI chats can be sent to DeepSeek or OpenRouter, and those providers may keep it and train on it. Custom callers sync to the Steam Workshop. The in-game browser is a real browser. The policy says the studio does not sell your data. Those are disclosures, not a cleanliness certificate.
2-spyware wrote on 18 October 2026 that it found no report of the game itself being malware, and it drew the line this site repeats: a virus alert, police raid, or hacked screen inside the game window is play. The same window on your real desktop is not.
Reported by players, not confirmed here
Negative Steam reviews and the Coop-Land write-up describe background recording after the game closes, a leftover browser process, multi-gigabyte video files, and a feeling that the AI use was under-explained. I cannot verify those from the policy text. I also cannot wave them away. If you care about the microphone, the honest move is to watch the process list after you quit and to read the policy before the first shift.
The US English store snapshot on 23 October 2026 was Very Positive: 1,977 reviews at 82 percent positive. A good score is not a privacy audit.
How to limit the risk
Install only from Steam. Do not run a repack because a forum said the real game is a virus. Deny the microphone in Windows if you only want typed calls. Know that boss review may still want a temporary recording. Skip custom caller downloads if you do not want Workshop files. Close the game and check Task Manager if you are worried about a leftover process.
FAQ
Is Scam With Your Friends a virus?
The store build is a game. The in-game virus is a mechanic. A third-party check on 18 October 2026 found no report that the game file itself is malware. Downloads that are not from Steam are a separate risk.
Does it record me?
The publisher says call recordings are stored on your PC, including a temporary boss-review copy if saving is off. Claims of recording after you exit are player reports, not something this page can confirm.
Is it safe to play with friends?
The multiplayer risk that is documented is a normal Steam lobby plus the microphone and AI-text disclosures above. Account theft is a different problem, covered on the Steam scams page.
