How to play the first shift

The first shift is a phone job inside a joke. You keep a caller talking, you look for a payment, and you try not to end the day in a boss review with an empty quota. Friends make the office louder. Solo is allowed.

What I checked

I watched the announcement trailer and read the store description side by side, then I read two public Steam guides: “My go to guide to scamming” and “A guide to scamming Strategies.” I am not copying their button-by-button routes, because I could not confirm those UI labels in a client. The steps below stay inside what the store and the 0.1.73 patch note actually name.

The loop the store describes

Answer or place the call and pitch a scheme. The caller is an AI, not another player. If the pitch needs personal data, the game’s fantasy is a remote-access view of that caller’s computer. The store calls this out as a feature, next to “hack into their computers.” It is still inside the game window.

Money on the call has to beat the day’s quota. Update 0.1.73 added a specific tool: Bitcoin and meme-coin rounds where you pitch, the caller invests, the value climbs toward a random crash, and you choose when to cash out for up to $700. Reassuring the caller can delay their withdrawal. It cannot cancel the crash. That is the most concrete “how a scam pays” note the developers have published.

Solo, then the first lobby

Steam’s category list includes single-player. Hotfix 2 later confirmed a lobby of one is valid, so a solo shift is not a workaround. When you add friends, host from the multiplayer page’s rules: same game version, a code or a Steam invite, and a cap of eight.

The day ends in a boss review. The publisher’s privacy policy says call recordings can be kept for that review even if you turn off call saving, and the usual folder is Documents\Scam With Your Friends\Videos. Read that before you treat the microphone as a toy.

  • Stay on the quota. The boss review is the fail state the store advertises.
  • In-game viruses and raids are hazards on the shift, not a reason to download a “fix” from a comment.
  • Typed dialogue exists when speech recognition will not start. Hotfix 2 says so.

FAQ

How do I play early?

Buy Early Access on Steam and start a lobby of one or more. There is no separate early-start code now that the game is live.

What is the goal?

Hit the daily quota by talking AI callers into payments, then survive the boss review.

Do I need a microphone?

Speech is a feature, and typed lines are the fallback when recognition fails. A microphone is how the voice path is designed to work.
