Hotfix 2: what changed
Hotfix 2 is the post that makes older “4 player” and “6 player” guides wrong for the Steam game. The developers wrote that lobby sizes now range from 1 to 8 players, with limits enforced correctly.
What I checked
I am quoting the scope from the Steam news item dated 16 October 2026, gid 1846651706680066. The same calendar day also has Hotfix 3, which is a different post about sign-in and version mismatch. I am not folding Hotfix 3 into this page.
Lobby changes
Public lobby filters were improved, and a “My version first” sort was added so rooms on your build float up. Join by code now accepts Steam invite links and flags invalid codes instead of failing silently. That is the whole multiplayer surface of the note.
Voice changes in the same post
Speech recognition delay was reduced, and more false music captions were filtered. Speech startup crashes on older Windows CPUs were addressed. Typed dialogue stays available. Stalled caller voice loading and Qwen3 startup problems are listed as fixed. If your crash is a GTX-specific startup failure, look at the 15 October hotfix as well. This post does not name those GPUs.
What this does to the rest of the guide
The multiplayer page treats 1–8 as current. The Xbox page keeps 6 players on the other game. If a later update changes the cap, this page should gain a banner that points at the newer post rather than being silently edited into a new number.
FAQ
Can I play with 8 friends?
The lobby holds 8 players total, including you. That is the Hotfix 2 wording, not 8 plus the host.
Does a lobby of 1 still count?
Yes. The range starts at 1.
Is Hotfix 3 required too?
Hotfix 3, posted later the same day, is the one with the version-mismatch screen. Take every Steam update. Do not stop at Hotfix 2.
